Thomas Moore

Renaissance man, Thomas Moore has been a monk (he belonged to a Catholic, Servite order for 13 years), a psychotherapist (he has practiced for over 20 years), a musician, and a University professor. He is perhaps best known for authoring The New York Times best-seller, Care of the Soul and its best-selling companion volume, Soul Mates.

In The Care of the Soul, Moore explored the importance of nurturing the soul and struck a chord nationwide. The book became a long-term bestseller, topping charts across the country and selling 550,000 copies in hardcover and paperback combined. Building on that book’s wisdom, Soul Mates explores how relationships of all kinds enhance our lives and fulfill the needs of our souls. Moore emphasizes the difficulties that inevitably accompany many relationships and focuses on the need to work through these differences in order to experience the deep reward that comes with intimacy and unconfined love.

Thomas Moore has authored over 15 books on deepening spirituality and cultivating “soul” in every aspect of life. Today he is a leading lecturer in the fields of holistic medicine, spirituality, psychotherapy, and the arts. He lectures frequently in Ireland due to his special love of Irish culture. He has a Ph.D. in religion from Syracuse University and has won several awards for his work, including an honorary doctorate from Leslie University and the Humanitarian Award from Einstein Medical School of Yeshiva University.

Three of his books have won the prestigious Books for a Better Life award. Moore also enjoys writing fiction and music and often works with his wife, artist, and yoga instructor, Hari Kirin. He writes regular columns for Resurgence, Spirituality & Health, and The Huffington Post and has recently published Writing in the Sand: The Spirituality of Jesus and the Soul of the Gospels, Care of the Soul in Medicine, and The Guru of Golf and Other Stories about the Game of Life.

Much of Moore’s recent work has focused on the world of medicine, speaking to nurses and doctors about the soul and spirit of medical practice.
